Mind the Gap: Happiness vs. Joy!

Mind the Gap: Happiness vs. Joy!

During my visit to London for the 2012 Summer Games I got inspired for a blog series. In the London Underground, “Mind the Gap” is the constant warning to “see and beware” of the space between the platform and the train door literally a matter of life and death! Boarding my blog, however, this same phrase is a plea to consider the “valuable difference” between words or concepts that otherwise appear quite similar a difference that I am hoping leads us to decisions or behavior that empowers self and others!

What IS the difference, for example, between Happiness and Joy?happiness vs joy

A great way to “Mind the Gap” between happiness and joy would be to focus on the dichotomy of internal vs. external, or the temporary vs. the lasting? NOT that these dichotomies are opposed, per se.

Yet, happiness is the state of mind that is a reaction to something EXTERNAL. You got or witnessed or tasted something that made you feel happy. The feeling is GREAT, but not lasting! The feeling comes when someone or something OTHER THAN YOU does something that makes you happy!

Joy is also an emotion/state of mind, but its origins and causes live INTERNALLY as a function of having done something significant in, of, for and by OURSELVES! Joy is lasting, contagious and productive. ?Joy rises in status above and beyond a pure emotion as a RESOURCE that lives in an accessible way inside of us. It?s there inside of you right now!

STOP waiting around for others to make you happy! START a habit of looking within and asking yourself what you are proud of, or grateful for in your life. Seriously, do it now. What are you proud of and grateful for?keep-calm-and-look-within-1Do you feel that? When you look within through the lenses of self-love, self-compassion and gratitude, you will have tapped into the magnetic, attractive, contagious and productive emotion of JOY!

My great friend and professional colleague, Michael Anderson, is the founder of Executive Joy!, a public speaking, executive coaching and workshop company dedicated to helping highly driven, successful Business Professionals?experience greater Joy (and success) in their lives!

Michael hired me in late 2012 to help him launch his Speaking career and in turn, has opened many professional doors for me as well. Working with Michael and watching his growth has made me happy, and now it also gives me GREAT JOY to promote his #1 best selling book, The Experiment!, theexperimentan exciting and modern business fable that promises to teach all of us the transformational life skills that Michael learned while pursuing his Masters in Spiritual Psychology skills that he has now taught to dozens of Business Professionals around the world.

I hope we get a chance to discuss Michael’s Book so much so that we’re offering two complimentary coaching sessions to anyone who orders Michael’s book! So, even if you have already had your two comp sessions, you get two more with proof of purchase of Michael’s book, The Experiment!

Remember, also, to Mind The Gap between Happiness and Joy and leave your comments or offer the ways you would describe THE difference Happiness and Joy!

To Yours, Cheers!

Mind the Gap: Motivation vs Inspiration

During my visit to London for the 2012 Summer Games I got inspired for a blog series. In the London Underground, “Mind the Gap” is the constant warning to “see and beware” of the space between the platform and the train door?literally a matter of life and death! Boarding my blog, however, this same phrase is a plea to consider the “valuable difference” between words or concepts that otherwise appear quite similar a difference that I am hoping leads us to decisions or behavior that empowers self and others!

What IS the difference, for example, between Motivation vs. Inspiration?

Motivation comes from something we desire to have. Motivation is something that can tug at us, like a force. Inspiration vs Motivation with Get a KluThe word motivation comes from the word motive. People often need a motive, to accomplish a task. For example, if a person is assigned a work task, and is feeling pressed for time, or has too many other tasks that are equally important, they will have to find the motivation to get the task complete. The motivation factor will tug at you to complete the task. To complete the task, a person may have to remind themselves of the motive, or reason for completing the task. The motive may be the employee’s performance review, the satisfaction of completing the task before a deadline, or a possible promotion. In all of this, the person will find the motivating force, or reason to take action. Motives can be created!

On the other hand, inspiration is an internal incentive, or something that comes from within. For example, we may listen to a speaker, and feel emotionally inspired by what they said, because, the speaker was able to awaken inspiration. Inspiration can also come from things we are grateful for.

Here is a perfect quote from the late Dr. Wayne Dyer (R.I.P.): “Motivation is when you get hold of an idea and carry it through to its conclusion, and inspiration is when an idea gets hold of you and carries you where you are intended to go.”

So, MIND THE GAP! Motivation is external, while Inspiration is internal. Furthermore, Inspiration, is an idea where Motivation is a consequence (the positive or negative result from taking or NOT taking action on your Inspiration!).University Club Power Breakfast with Get a Klu

An example from my business would be programs like my Power Breakfast or Happy Office Hours at The University Club downtown. The great business climate and stunning views Get a Klu Power Breakfast at the University Clubat The University Club always provide “inspiration” and the outcomes of our productive conversations provide the motivation to schedule, promote and host them. I know promoting the time I invest at The University Club will give me more chances to connect with clients, prospects, partners, current or former students and friends to provide valuable brainstorming, sound boarding, and coaching tips where appropriate. The Club gives me Inspiration but my meetings with YOU are my Motivation!

I hope that this has been helpful in showing you the difference between Motivation and Inspiration and, of course, I hope to see you at The University Club for my Power Breakfast or Happy Office Hours soon! Until then…

To Your Success!

I LOVE Toastmasters…and that’s not just because I gave an “award winning” humorous speech for Toastmasters a few years ago.

In short, Toastmasters Clubs develop Public Speaking and Leadership Skills.

I’m getting more involved with Toastmasters this year and to kick off 2017, so I’m excited to announce one of Get a Klu’s favorite clients, Chef Works Inc., has agreed to partner with us to launch a new Toastmasters Club. You can read more about Toastmasters below or by visiting their website.

chefworks-logoThis blog becomes outdated on January 9th as we’ll be hosting our first “mock meeting” where you can learn more about Toastmasters, how a club works overall, how specific meetings are run, what you can get out of it and, of course, how you can contribute to the Club’s success!

toastmasters-logoWHEN: January 9th 2017 at 11:30 a.m.

WHERE: Chef Works Corporation Headquarters is located at 12325 Kerran Street • Poway, CA 92064

WHY: First of all, Toastmasters International is a world leader in communication and leadership development. Members of Toastmasters improve their speaking and leadership skills by regularly giving speeches, gaining feedback, leading teams and guiding others to achieve their goals in a supportive atmosphere. The results are greater self-confidence, personal growth and deepened relationships with fellow club members.

Every meeting of a Toastmasters Club features several different forms of Public Speaking (impromptu and prepared speeches, oral evaluations, functionary reports and more!) and also provides several “leadership” opportunities due to the roles/functionaries that are required to run each meeting.

Secondly, Jeff Klubeck is an International Speaking Trainer and Coach who brings 20 years of experience teaching Public Speaking to the Club. His passion, experience and expertise when it comes to Public Speaking Coaching/Training is an incredible “value add” to the host of benefits Toastmasters offers its members.toastmasters on the big stage

Finally, GREAT networking with fellow friends/clients of Get A Klu as well as the SUPER Chef Works employees who take advantage of this wonderful benefit being provided for them.

Again, we will explain ALL of this to you when you attend the Information Session (“mock meeting”) on Monday January 9th at 11:30 am PST. Make sure to let me know if you can make it. Also feel free to share this event with your friends and colleauges.

If you can’t wait to get the Toastmasters info, feel free to contact Jeff Klubeck directly (jeff@getaklu.net or 619-405-3356) if you have any questions!

Klu’s Briefs: Apps for Success!

Klu’s Briefs: Apps for Success!

Apps are awesome, let’s face it! ?Lately, I’ve been sharing?my favorite tools and resources with you and I’ve been enjoying that so much that I have decided to create a new blog series called “Klu’s Briefs” where I will continue to share my tools for success and welcome your input on new resources I should check out too. ?Today’s blog focuses on smartphone apps.

Again, let’s face it, our “devices” are?glued to our hands all day and night. ?In today’s day and age, your smartphone or tablet can do virtually anything. ?I view my smartphone as a digital swiss army knife that can help me succeed in so many ways. Here are some apps that are absolutely essential for me as a business owner and coach:

Zoom- The Zoom app keeps me connected! I usually use Zoom?on the computer, but when I’m on the go and don’t have my laptop, Zoom?makes it possible to still have?video conference calls clients, ?record sessions and review previous meetings. Zoom is my go-to tool for conferencing both in the office and on the go.

Dropbox LogoDropbox-?As someone who is always working on the go whether it’s at a client’s location, the class I’m teaching in, or during meetings like at my Power Breakfast, Dropbox is a lifesaver. I don’t have to worry about saving documents, transferring documents or how I will access documents because I can access everything in one place. This is another tool that I can access on the computer, but having the app makes a big difference since I don’t always have my computer.

PayPal– The PayPal app allows me to make and accept payments on the spot with my phone. No more needing to wait for checks to arrive in the mail wonder if a payment was sent. ?I really love being prompt with my payments…people always appreciated not having to track you down for money you ow them. ?Because my PayPal account is linked to my business, I find it more reliable for auto-payments than my traditional bank debit or credit cards that seemed to get replaced “for security purposes” all to frequently. ?PayPal is stable, consistent and certainly “mobile!”

LinkedIn LogoLinkedIn- Having the LinkedIn app on my phone allows me to connect with people immediately. If I’m at a conference watching a panel of people speak, I can immediately look up each person on LinkedIn to have a better understand of their background and experience beyond their short bio in the program. I can also connect with a new contact immediately rather than risk having their business card get added to a pile of others. If we’re connected on LinkedIn, you may notice that I post consistently. Having the app allows me to keep up with my posts, reply to comments and messages much more efficiently than when I was only logging in maybe once a week at the most on my computer. By the way, feel free to connect with me on LinkedIn

What are some critical apps on your smartphone? One of the benefits of sharing my top picks for things is that I get to learn about your favorite tools too. Let me know in the comments if there are any apps you?recommend and why.

Klu’s Briefs is a series?where I share my recommended tools for success in coaching, business and life. I welcome your input on new resources?you recommend that I?check out too. I view this as an opportunity for everyone to?learn and collaborate.??

Alexandra Harbushka has invited me to be a guest on her?Real World Woman Podcast?next month in April. Alexandra is a colleague and friend from The University Club, where we are both members. We recently had a chance to sit down for a Power Breakfast (remember ?you can join me any time for breakfast!) and learn more about each other’s businesses. I’m impressed by Alexandra’s ambition, drive and vision…therefore, honored to be a guest on?her Podcast.

You may be wondering, “Why is Jeff appearing on a Woman’s Podcast?” ?The idea is to provide real life information to help women become confident, understand what she wants/needs from life and give her resources to become her sexy self. ?So,?even though the Podcast has the word “Woman” in the title, it’s really a program that both men and women will enjoy. ?Perhaps you know that my wife has a successful corporate career that currently has her on 50% travel giving me an opportunity to be “Super Dad” in somewhat of a traditional gender-role-reversal. ?I might also share my insight on being a Life/Business Coach, running a service based business, being an Adjunct Professor and balancing it all with “Triple Daddy Duty” for our 3 kids. ?Men and woman both bring unique qualities to the table, and I feel that it’s important to have a thorough understanding of the different types of contributions each gender is capable of making in this world.

Alexandra Harbushka with Get A KluMore about Alexandra Harbushka: Taken from her own words?“I am an entrepreneur, a daughter, and a lover. My life passion is to help women discover the secrets to having all three of life?s essentials: sex, money, and food. I bring my international experience and corporate success together to help other women thrive as a Real World Woman.

I have lived a full life so far, and know that real women are nothing like the glitz and glamour displayed on the red carpet and in the media. That doesn?t mean, however, that we don?t deserve the same quality of life they enjoy. How do Real World Women discover success with sex, money, and food? I have made it my life goal to find out. Between my podcasts where industry experts and I share the inside scoop and my store where I bring beauty to women, I hope to spread happiness and success to women worldwide.

With a background in residential real estate, residential mortgages and experience working in the heart of the fashion industry?Madison Avenue?I have spent years cultivating the insider insight that I bring to you through my podcast. My passion to help you live your best life will come through the second you set foot in it”.
